assaabloy.com 27 Door controls Legislation EN 1155 – Electrically powered hold-open devices Closers which are controlled by an electromagnetic function allow doors to be held open as required. In addition to EN 1154, electromagnetic closers must meet the additional requirements of EN 1155. In the event of a fire, the fire alarm trigger cuts power to the electromagnetic door closer, allowingthe door to close to prevent fire and smoke from spreading. It is this ability to automatically release and shut that makes EN 1155 hold open products safe for use on fire doors where pure mechanical hold-open units cannot be used. Door closer power size DC power size Max door width Max door weight EN 3 950mm 60kg EN 4 1100mm 80kg EN 5 1250mm 100kg EN 6 1400mm 120kg EN 7 1600mm 160kg EN 1155 classification key Grading scope EN 1155:1997+A1:2002 FIRE BEHAVIOUR AND RESISTANCE Having successfully completed a fire test to EN 1634-1. Only Grade 1 is identified. Grade 1: Suitable for use on fire/smoke door assemblies (1) SAFETY All door closers are required to satisfy the requirement of safety in use. Only Grade 1 is identified. (1) CATEGORY OF USE Only Grade 3 category of use is identified for electronically powered hold-open devices and door coordinating devices. For doors used by the public and others, with little incentive to take care, i.e. where there is some chance of misuse of the door. (3) TEST DOOR MASS/SIZE Five door mass grades and related hold-open power sizes are identified (refer to power size table opposite). Where an electrically powered hold-open device and door coordinator device is suitable for a range of door closer power sizes, both the minimum and maximum power sizes shall be identified (5/8) NUMBER OF TEST CYCLES Two test durations are identified for devices manufactured to this standard: Grade 5: 50,000 test cycles. For all electrically powered hold-open devices Grade 8: 500,000 test cycles 1. For electrically powered hold-open and free-swing door closers and devices that contain operating arms 2. For door coordinator devices incorporated in, or for use in conjunction with, automatic swing door operators, and for devices incorporated in a door closer (0-4) CORROSION RESISTANCE Corrosion resistance to EN 1670 Neutral Salt Spray test and operation of the product at extreme temperatures. Five grades are identified: Grade 0: No defined corrosion resistance Grade 1: Mild resistance Grade 2: Moderate resistance Grade 3: High resistance Grade 4: Very high resistance (3-7) The above power sizes can be applied in three different closer types 1) F ixed – 1 power size only 2) Template – multiple power sizes by moving the closer body along the door face 3) Variable – Infinite adjustment within range of sizes Fixed sized closers have 1 digit in the third classification box, template closers list all possible grades in the third classification box, variable closers show the maximum and minimum grades in the third classification box.
