assaabloy.com 303 Hinges Introduction Legislation EN 1935:2002 - single axis hinges EN 1935:2002 classifies single axis hinges using an 8-digit coding system. Each digit refers to a particular feature of the product measured against the standard’s performance requirements (see Hinges classification key). It is a legal requirement for hinges being fitted to fire doors to be UKCA / CE marked to EN 1935. Our policy is to test and classify our single axis hinges according to EN 1935. By seeing this information you can be confident that the hinges chosen will meet the performance requirements of any particular application. Lift-off and butt hinges can be tested to EN 1935 and UKCA / CE marked by an independent Notified Body, provided they meet all other criteria of the standard. All hinges featured in this specification manual are UKCA / CE marked. Furthermore our manufacturing plant is registered to ISO 9001, the international quality standard. This enables us to guarantee that all our products will meet our stringent quality requirements. To pass testing under EN 1935:2002 hinges must: Be strong enough to carry the relevant test door mass Be robust enough to work efficiently, whatever the traffic Suit opening requirements (normal swing, swing clear, projecting) Be durable enough to last according to the duty required B e suitable, as required, for application on fire/smoke doors, security doors, self-closing doors and external doors – EN 1935 has two means of demonstrating fire door suitability - EN 1634-1 fire testing or minimummelting point declaration Step 5 Handing For lift-off hinges only where it is essential to ensure the male hinge blade (with spigot) is fitted to the frame and the female hinge blade is fitted to the door leaf. On outer perimeter doors, knuckles should ideally be on the inside of the door for increased protection against attack. Use the diagrams below to select the correct handing for each application. Step 6 Fitting and lubrication Hinges should be morticed into the edge of the door and the frame. Make sure all hinges fitted to the door are lined up vertically. On a standard 44mm door, the centreline of the narrow part of the hinge leaf should align with the centreline of the door. The hinge knuckle will project beyond the face of the door, as shown above. If the hinge requires it, lubrication should normally be carried out on installation and then twice a year. Only use the screws provided or recommended when fitting hinges, as the load carrying capacity of the hinge is dependent on the correct screws being used. A pilot hole should be drilled for the screws.
