assaabloy.com 531 Cylinders Introduction Maintenance of cylinders and padlocks Our cylinders and padlocks are made to extremely fine manufacturing tolerances. Like any mechanical device used on a daily basis, certain preventive maintenance measures are essential to ensure trouble-free operation and longevity of the products. Here are our maintenance tips: 1. F rom install and at least every six months thereafter, cylinders and padlocks should be lubricated using ASSA ABLOY lock spray. More frequent lubrication may be required on doors in constant use or harsh environmental conditions 2. Graphite is not recommended for use with cylinders, and oil should never be used 3. Do not paint cylinders and keep metal filings away from them, as this can clog the mechanism 4. A SSA ABLOY lock spray is specially formulated to avoid clogging or damage to the cylinder mechanism, especially on ASSA CLIQ® electronic cylinders. It is therefore recommended instead of conventional lubricant sprays 5. T he use of ASSA ABLOY lock spray is recommended before the winter season on products fitted in an external environment. This will overcome problems with frost and condensation 6. I f a cylinder is frozen, ASSA ABLOY lock cleaner may be used to de-ice it. Afterwards, re-lubricate the cylinder using ASSA ABLOY lock spray 7. T o ensure correct tolerances are maintained, only original ASSA ABLOY key blanks should be used, they should only be cut by an approved stockist Please see cylinder accessories section for products to support maintenance. What additional cylinder functions are required? Clutch release and anti-barricade cylinder Designed to prevent somebody on the inside of the door from holding the turn and locking key-holders out. Insertion of the key disengages the clutch which allows the turn to rotate freely without engaging the cam. Classroom functionality The classroom function in a thumb turn cylinder makes it possible to rotate the thumb turn in one direction only i.e. clockwise or anti-clockwise. This is often used to make sure that a person inside a room cannot lock another person out, but can always escape in an emergency. The cylinder is also clutch release as standard so somebody in the room cannot prevent a key-holder from entering. Dual action and emergency functionality Under normal circumstances if the occupant of a building leaves their key in a cylinder at any angle, other key-holders are prevented from entering the premises as the cylinder is blocked by the internal key. A dual action and emergency function cylinder allows key-holders to enter the premises even if the occupant has left the key in the cylinder. This is an ideal solution for residential care homes or apartment buildings.
