CTC - Candidate Handbook

Safeguarding and Prevent Policy Safeguarding The Centre is committed to providing a safe learning environment by safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all learners. We also recognise our responsibility to identify learners who are at risk of/or suffering significant harm and take appropriate action to ensure all learners are kept safe. All staff members will receive adequate training to familiarise with safeguarding issues and responsibilities, keeping up to date with development and safeguarding and undertaking refresher training at least every three years. The Centre has recruitment procedures in place which ensure every care is taken to ensure that young people are protected. The recruitment procedures will apply to all staff and consultants who work for/within the organisation. Suspected safeguarding allegations at any point in a programme, whether discovered before or after completion, will be investigated and dealt with appropriately. This may include disciplinary action against any individual involved which could result in either failure of the programme, or exclusion from the Centre and/or the relevant training programme. Prevent The Counter-terrorism and Security Act 2015 places a duty on authorities, including Further Education institutions, to have ‘due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.’ We are aware of the specific need to deal with all kinds of terrorist threats to safety and security which originate from a range of extremist groups. The current terrorist threat in the United Kingdom may include the exploitation of vulnerable people in order to involve them in activities associated with terrorism. We are clear such exploitation and radicalisation should be viewed as a safeguarding concern. All staff members receive adequate training to understand what extremism and radicalisation mean, relationship between extremism and terrorism, and why certain individuals may be vulnerable. Staff understand policies and procedures in place in order to challenge extremist ideology and prevent individuals from being drawn into terrorism. Staff also know how and where to get additional advice and support, and when referrals should be made. Again, the Centre has recruitment procedures in place which ensure every care is taken so all individuals are protected. This includes excluding individuals who promote or support extremist views which are conducive to terrorism. Jewish faith Muslim faith Hindu faith Sikh faith 11 POLICIES & PROCEDURES
