Cumbria Community Foundation - Annual Review 2021

6 7 MEASURING OUR IMPACT Measuring our impact In a year when the people of Cumbria have needed the support of local charities more than ever, we gave out more than twice the value of grants awarded in the previous year. In total, £5,212,472 was awarded in grants, of which, £3,038,132 was in response to COVID-19. We’re delighted to share our insights and highlights into the impact and value that donations and grants have made to our county and local communities within Cumbria. The information is based on completed end of grant reports from funded projects within the previous year. The themes, outcomes and indicators of the impact measurement framework enables us to capture the kind of change that groups are achieving and helps us better communicate this to current and potential donors and the wider community. The full statistics on which this information is based are available on our website. MEASURING OUR IMPACT Incorporating the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Over the past year, as well as our own impact assessment framework, we’ve used the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to deepen our understanding and provide a framework to support our engagement with supporters and applicants. Developed in 2015, the 17 SDGs tackle root causes of poverty and unite us together to make a positive difference to both people and planet. Through our grant making, we’ve been able to help address these global challenges at a local community level. Projects funded during 20/21 have contributed to these nine SDGs. 22,119 hours of community activity provided 489 people gained long-term employment 74 people became self-employed 4,719 people took part in training with 2,422 gaining accreditation 548 people went into further education 570 trees planted 52,795 people accessed support services for the first time 16,926 people required less living support 20,798 people engaged in regular volunteering, 1,271 for the first time 237 people received support for addiction issues 3,071 people reported feeling safer in their community
