Pathways is an adult out of court disposal with an offender management programme Appropriate use of out of court disposal, means victims receive justice quicker while the offender faces immediate consequences for their actions
Pathways Support Workers (PSWs) identify the root cause of offending refer to prescriptive interventions while addressing underlying vulnerabilities signpost to appropriate partner agencies
538 offenders referred into programme Statistics (June 2021 – October 2022) 75%(406) offenders successfully completed the programme 17% (91) did not complete all elements of the programme 8% (41) open referrals - ongoing
For those who participated in the Pathways programme, there is a 56% reduction in demand Less calls to police Less officers deployed Less people in custody Less demand on specialist support services
Criminogenic Needs - factors that influence offending behaviour Offenders complexity of needs are assessed with the Pathways Support Worker (PSW) at the beginning, known as their ‘criminogenic needs’ Using categories such as education, employment, accommodation, relationships, finance, drugs & drink and wellbeing The PSW then identifies relevant critical pathways and signposts appropriately
805 referrals signposted for specialist support the biggest need being in the following areas 126 Drugs and alcohol services 96 Mental health 74 NHS/GP 63 Debt and Financial advice
98% Participants reported there had been improvements in their needs assessment resulting in positive changes to lifestyle choices and reductions in offending behaviour
Observations satisfaction of participants who completed an evaluation 100% PARTICIPANTS WERE SATISIFED WITH THE SERVICE 98% FELT THEIR NEEDS HAD BEEN FULLY OR PARTIALLY MET 100% WOULD RECOMMEND THE SERVICE TO OTHERS
176 victims contacted by Pathways Support Workers 39% agreed to some form of Restorative Justice Restorative Justice (RJ) RJ brings together people harmed by crime or conflict with those responsible for the harm, to find a positive way forward
Success ‘I have struggled and it’s not always easy, so the support I needed is exactly what I was given. Hopefully the services can continue to make me the best I can be in life’ ‘Feel as if it’s a lifeline’ ‘I really needed someone to talk to about the offence, I have 100% learned my lesson’
