Company Profile Bailrigg R&M Diagnostics Ltd is a medtech startup based in the UK that focuses on the development of portable technologies for near-patient diagnostics. The Project The project aims to develop an easy to use portable blood/swab testing kit to detect coronaviruses, influenza viruses and other respiratory viruses causing respiratory diseases. A point-of-care single test cartridge to detect multiple respiratory viruses will be novel as this will address some unmet clinical needs. Currently, there are separate remote tests available for these viruses - which results in longer test turnaround time - worsening the symptoms. Having an easy-to-use test that people can use at home or in GP surgeries reduces transportation requirements for the individual and the test kits, resulting in a reduced carbon footprint. This project is very timely because of the current pandemic which has severe adverse impact worldwide. Hejan Bozkurt Hejan graduted with a 2:1 Master of Science (MSci) in Biomedicine from Lancaster University. During her education, she realised her particular interest in Medical Microbiology and has contributed to several laboratory-based internships. Currently, she is aiming to develop an easy to use respiratory disease detector to diagnose infections caused by respiratory viruses, including SARS-CoV2.
