Company Profile Based in Halton, Lancaster, Cleverstein is a footwear design company which focuses on convertible circular footwear solutions. Launched with a modular recyclable ballet flat, they are now expanding their range of products and services. They also offer a tech-driven B2B and B2C repair and recycling service to shoe designers and retailers The Project The focus of this project is to undertake research and development to design and inform a market-led approach to the commercialisation of a full circularity service for the footwear industry. This service will lead to better utilisation and an extended lifespan of existing footwear. This will reduce the need to manufacture new shoes, reduce waste resulting from fewer discarded shoes and decrease the industry’s carbon footprint. This project will function as a case study of value creation within the circular economy, measured by a triple-bottom line of economic, social and environmental development. Mark Ryan Mark's life has taken an exciting trajectory. He studied psychology as an undergraduate and used this to become a teacher and later an educational leader. From here, he gained an MBA to advance his leadership skills. This led him to his current position, undertaking a PhD project with Cleverstein.
