ECO-I North West - Opening up the expertise, equipment and resource of the region’s leading universities

Company Profile Biotech Services Ltd, based in Cheshire, provides biotechnical suport to businesses across the UK. Biotech Services seek to reuse extracted organic production waste to create new products. The Project The project research aims to build upon Biotech’s expertise on the valorisation of agricultural waste. Currently, as an example, tomato plant waste undergoes multiple extraction and purification processes, generating a large variety of biomolecules such as biopolymers and proteins. This agricultural waste has a number of biomaterial exploration opportunities and gives a potential for application in value-added products. This project aims to utilise different agricultural waste feedstocks, gaining understanding and maximising their true value as potential sources of renewable materials. These biomaterials can be utilised for novel biotechnological applications, such as antimicrobial fabrics, biomaterial for regenerative medicine, “greener” lithium-ion batteries and biodegradable packaging.
