KENDAL VISION - INSPIRATION FOR CHANGE IN KENDAL

1 2 4 5 6 7 3 “The out of town supermarket shopping is an environmental disaster. I always go to the local greengrocer!” QUOTE FROM WORKSHOP PARTICIPANT (4TH OCTOBER 2019) HANDS-ON PLANNING GROUPS GROUP 3: TRAFFIC SOLUTIONS NOT POLLUTION Local bus services are only good during day. They stop too early in the evening and Sundays, constraining evening economy. (Cockermouth services run until midnight.) 40% of car journeys are less than 1 mile and could be done by most people on foot or bike. Extend bike-path network making cycling inviting and easier. Better define and improve accessibility for walking routes to encourage healthier living. Park & Walk at key locations at town entry points. Railway line between Oxenholme and Windermere to be more frequent and with more stops. Northern link road: would avoid traffic through town centre going to industrial area, but very expensive to build and potentially destructive to the environment. Outlying neighbourhoods: Hallgarth, Kirkbarrow, Collinfield, Heron Hill and Sandylands are poorly served by public transport. KENDAL VISION 2020 | THE EVENT THAT CHANGED KENDAL 130
