Currently operating as an active limestone quarry under single private ownership, the site also contains evidence of historic limekilns to the northeast, contributing to its heritage interest. The engineered quarry landscape, defined by its steep sides, creates a natural sense of containment that would help shield new development from the surrounding countryside and the adjacent National Park. In addition, the mature tree belt along the western boundary provides effective landscape screening while also contributing significant biodiversity value. Lidar data reveals that the quarry has been worked into a series of excavated plateaus at varying levels. Although the landscape is everchanging, these plateaus highlight potential areas suitable for future development. At the base of the quarry is a lake. An employment allocation lies to the north, though delivery is contingent upon significant highway upgrades to the A591, including a new roundabout. This site would similarly benefit from those improved connections. The Ghyll Manor site, allocated for housing, has now been completed, establishing a new residential neighbourhood adjacent to the quarry.
