Muntham House School 1 O ur Secondary Department is thoughtfully designed to offer a focused, supportive learning environment that promotes both academic success and personal growth. With small class sizes and a high staff-to-pupil ratio, each pupil benefits from individualised attention, ensuring comprehensive support across all aspects of their education. Our fully inclusive school creates a vibrant, dynamic atmosphere where pupils can thrive and enjoy their educational journey. Set within 23 acres of beautiful West Sussex countryside, the school boasts excellent recreational amenities, an extensive Forest School programme and a wide range of modern learning tools, such as iPads, laptops and interactive Clevertouch boards in every classroom. The Secondary Department is designed to meet the unique needs of every pupil, with dedicated subject classrooms, indoor and outdoor sports facilities and areas for relaxation and emotional regulation. This holistic approach helps to create a nurturing and engaging environment where pupils can focus on their personal and academic development. Our carefully structured curriculum ensures that every pupil is allowed to excel, no matter their starting point. Pupils are encouraged to reach their full potential, with many achieving excellent results in their GCSE and BTEC examinations. Muntham House School 21 Our school vegetable farm grows a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs, with pupils gaining experience in planting, tending and harvesting crops throughout the year. The polytunnel provides an ideal environment with controlled conditions, allowing for extended growing seasons and the sustainable production of fresh, organic produce. The farm serves as a valuable educational tool, teaching pupils about plant biology, sustainable agriculture and the importance of locally sourced food. Muntham House School 23 The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) program is a key part of our commitment to developing well-rounded, confident and resilient young people. The DofE program offers pupils the opportunity to challenge themselves, build life skills and experience personal growth through a combination of adventurous, physical activities. Our pupils actively participate in all three levels of the award: Bronze, Silver and Gold, each requiring them to undertake four key sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills and the Expedition. Whether volunteering within the community, learning a new skill, improving physical fitness, or planning and completing expeditions, pupils are supported by our dedicated staff every step of the way. The expedition section is a highlight, where pupils work in teams to plan and carry out outdoor journeys in varied, often challenging environments. These experiences help build teamwork, problem- solving abilities and independence while fostering a love for nature and adventure. Our school provides guidance, resources and training to ensure pupils are well-prepared and overcome challenges. Muntham House School 25 R esidential pupils at our school engage in a structured evening care curriculum that offers a wide range of activities, including Lego building, baking, arts and crafts, bike riding, scooters and forest school experiences. Pupils can enjoy facilities like a cinema room, arcade, and pool room for social development. These activities foster both creativity and social skills within a warm, homely environment where pupils cook, share meals and build friendships together. Evenings also provide opportunities for pupils to enhance their literacy and numeracy skills, with homework and bedtime reading strongly encouraged. Pupils are urged to attend clubs off-site such as Cubs, Scouts, Youth Club, Army Cadets, Boxing, Martial Arts and various other sports clubs. A consistent bedtime routine ensures pupils receive enough rest, helping them feel refreshed and ready to learn the next day. Our secondary residential accommodation, featuring personalised bedrooms, is designed to create a true home away from home. Every aspect of the space has been thoughtfully planned to ensure pupils feel safe, comfortable and happy, supporting their well-being and mental health. Muntham House School 27 Awarm, welcoming environment is created where pupils feel safe, happy and well cared for. These fundamental principles enable pupils to develop, learn and flourish both within the care provision and during the educational school day. High staff-to-pupil ratios are in place across every care floor, meaning that pupils are always fully supported. Care staff will support pupils in trying new activities, developing their social skills, self-confidence and raising their self-esteem. All care staff members hold Level 3 Diplomas in Child Care. Some hold additional qualifications and complete further training to improve their practice. Pupils follow clear routines, developing both socially and academically. All residential time is well spent and pupils are kept very busy.

Our team of qualified and experienced therapists provides specialised support during times of stress, anxiety, or crisis, helping pupils navigate challenges with care and understanding. Our soft, nurturing and therapeutic approach is woven throughout every aspect of the school, from the curriculum to pastoral care.
