You will need GCSE Maths at grade 7 or above as part of a strong GCSE profile and a graphical calculator which can be purchased from the College. WHAT WILL I STUDY? This course is ideal for those who are particularly interested in mathematics, are highly competent with algebraic manipulation and are considering Mathematics, Engineering, Physics or Actuarial Science degrees. You will study topics in further pure mathematics and the applied areas of mechanics and discrete mathematics. Students will sit the AS examination at the end of one year and then the full A-level exam at the end of two years. WHAT NEXT? A number of A-level Further Maths students go on to study a mathematical course at university such as Maths, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics and Physics. Some prestigious universities require students to have studied A-level Further Maths to be accepted on to the courses mentioned. DID YOU KNOW? Grade 4 in GCSE English Language and a love of, and interest in, the media is essential. WHAT WILL I STUDY? In the first year you will learn about the key aspects of the theoretical framework of media language and representation through music videos, advertising, and newspapers. You will also study the film, video games and radio industries. In the second year you will examine television drama, mainstream and alternative magazines, and online media. You will use media technologies to plan and produce your practical media coursework, for example, a music or film marketing campaign. This counts for 30% of the total A-level. WHAT NEXT? Media studies is a rapidly developing subject and a strong growth area for career opportunities. The majority of top universities now offer a variety of excellent Media courses with great work experience opportunities. MEDIA STUDIES DID YOU KNOW? The starting salary for assistant producers range from £18,000 to £25,000 and can reach £40,000 to £80,000.
