Sociology is an exciting subject which helps you to answer questions like: Why do we have to go to school? Why do we live in families? What are the benefits of religion? Why do some people commit crime? Sociology will make you question things you may have taken for granted. Sociology helps you develop analytical, critical ways of thinking, beneficial across many subjects. You will develop your essay writing and verbal communication skills. You need an open mind and to be keen to see things from different viewpoints. An interest in the world we live in is vital, as is an interest in people, their actions and interactions. WHAT NEXT? Sociology provides excellent skills for most university degrees especially the social sciences, anthropology, and criminology. Students may follow careers in social work, law, journalism, caring professions, policing, the Civil Service, advertising, market research, teaching, and business. PSYCHOLOGY SOCIOLOGY QUALIFICATION: A-LEVEL DURATION: TWO YEAR COURSE EXAMINATION BOARD: OCR WHAT DO I NEED TO STUDY THIS COURSE? Grade 5 in GCSE English Language and Maths and grade 44 in GCSE Combined Science. WHAT WILL I STUDY? Research Methods: this component is intended to develop your knowledge and understanding of the process of planning, conducting, analysing and reporting psychological research across a range of experimental and non-experimental techniques. Psychological Themes Through Core Studies: the focus is on some of the central areas of investigation in psychology. There are 20 studies to be covered. Applied Psychology. This covers issues in mental health, child psychology, and criminal psychology. Methodological Issues and Debates: this will run throughout the course and includes nature/nurture, freewill/determinism, reductionism/ holism, individual/ situational and psychology as a science. WHAT NEXT? Psychology can lead to many careers including clinical psychology, counselling, educational psychology, forensic psychology, and occupational psychology. DID YOU KNOW?
