Welcome The Arch English Hub is based at All Souls CE Primary, an Outstanding school in Rochdale. We are passionate about reading and teaching all children to read fluently and for enjoyment. We are one of 34 English Hubs nationwide, funded by the Department for Education to support schools in achieving excellence in teaching early reading and early language. We provide funding and free support to schools in the following local authorities: Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Bury, Hyndburn, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Rossendale, Salford, Tameside & Wigan. Support provided by the hubs focuses on the following three areas: Early-language development and ‘closing the word gap’. Age-appropriate phonics: encouraging fidelity to a single systematic synthetic phonics programme and supporting the effective use of decodable books in the early stages of learning as a way of establishing phonic decoding. Promoting a love of reading through a focus on reading aloud, encouraging reading at home and developing teachers’ knowledge of children’s literature.
