62 4 After descending to the road, cross to a footpath down to a car park, then follow the road down for just over half a mile. Take the public footpath to Staveley-in- Cartmel on the left, cross a stile and go straight on into the woods towards a wall on the left for approximately 100 metres, then follow the path down through newly planted trees until you come to a wall at the bottom. Cross a stone stile, following the path left, then on until you leave the spruce plantation. Cross another stile and go right, through a gate 20 metres ahead, and back into Staveley-in-Cartmel. Turn right for Fell Foot. 5 Take care crossing the busy A592 to get back to Fell Foot. Fell Foot & Lakeside Fell Foot to Gummer’s How Walk This walk takes you up to the popular Gummer’s How viewpoint with spectacular panoramic views of Lake Windermere. Start/Finish: Fell Foot Distance: 5.5 miles (8.9km) Time: 3 hours Height gain: 1400 feet / 424 metres Terrain: Road and public footpath, forest trails 1 Walk up from the jetty and follow the signs for the car park. Turn right at the car park exit and, after 50 metres, take the road to Staveley-in-Cartmel. Walk for approximately quarter of a mile until you reach a telephone box in the village. Turn left along a public bridleway to Simpson Ground. Follow the marked bridleway and go through a gate, continue uphill following the blue arrows until you come to a forest road. 2 Once you reach the track, cross over following the waymarked track into the forest (Grid ref. SD386858). The waymarks lead you eastwards past Raven Scar and onto Simpson Ground Reservoir. From here follow the dam until the outlet. Turn hard right onto a tiny track leading out of the forest to a stone wall where the route runs parallel to the wall. At the corner, cross the stile into an open field and bear left through the rocks to a gate on the left. Walk through the gate and follow the farm track through to Sow How Lane. 3 After a couple of minutes turn left at the road junction and walk along for 300 meters until you come to the footpath to Gummer’s How Summit.
