Triangle Aircraft Services - Climate Neutral Strategy

12 In response to these threats, Pez Maya is being estab- lished: an exciting and emerging hub of conservation research, environmental education, ecotourism, and global knowledge-exchange. The Climate Crisis continues to escalate as extreme weather patterns intensify causing greater numbers of people to leave their desertified, degraded, or flooded lands. Much of the world’s wildlife and ecosystems are under threat. Rainforest Partnership - Mangroves, Pez Maya, Mexico In the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, the second largest coral reef in the world meets mangroves, rainforests, underground rivers, and dunes, and wetlands; em- blematic and endangered species, from jaguars, to sea turtles, crocodiles, corals, and over 300 species of birds, coexist in this melting pot of ecosystems and wildlife. All of this and more exists on the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. But this paradise is threatened by deforestation, climate change, and pollution. Extensive, long-term conservation action is urgent. Rainforest Partnership is working with Amigos de Sian Ka’an, an established Mexican NGO to turn this one-of- a-kind biological station into a regional nexus for con- servation and community development. The project will support Mayan communities and pro- tect critical ecosystems, including: the Mesoamerican reef, which protects the coastline and provides food security to local people, the Maya Forest, largest tropical forest in Mesoamerica, and mangrove forests providing $11.4B of ecosystem services for protect- ing the shore and sequester carbon at a rate 4x more efficient than tropical rainforests.
