9 Contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) SDG 2 – Zero Hunger Reduction of ocean plastic decreases the threat to the health and productivity of oceans and fisheries and directly benefits coastal communities. SDG 3 – Good Health & Well-Being Reduction of plastic decreases the distinct threat to human health caused through exposure to plastic particles and associated chemicals SDG 6 – Clean Water & Sanitation The reduction of plastic and the creation of healthier alternatives is essential to ensure clean water. With plastic is now found in every part of our water systems, posing the most serious challenge humankind has faced. SDG 8 – Decent Work & Economic Growth The reduction of ocean plastics decreases costs associated with coastal clean-ups, and will increase revenues through fisheries, shipping and coastal tourism. SDG 12 – Responsible Production & Consumption It is predicted that ocean plastic will increase tenfold by 2025. We work to develop plastic waste management solutions essential to the removal and reduction of plastic. SDG 14 – Life Under Water The absence of pollutants is critical for healthy oceans. 300 million tonnes of plastic is produced each year, with an estimated 8 million tonnes ending up in our oceans. Urgent efforts must be made to protect marine ecosystems and remove the threat of marine debris.
