The mountains of the island appear on the horizon and then beautiful Douglas Bay unfolds with its terraced seafront buildings and hotels. The island is a self-governing part of the British Isles with the oldest parliament in the world. There is peaceful countryside, spectacular coastline and small, old fashioned seaside towns. We start with a local departure and make our way to Heysham for the ferry crossing to Douglas. Here accommodation has been reserved at the Chesterhouse Hotel. This is set on the sea front in Douglas. Douglas features a whole host of amenities including an extensive shopping area and a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. Hotel features include a lounge and dining room. All rooms are well appointed. The Chesterhouse Hotel has its own restaurant and bar with great views of Douglas Bay. There is also a comfortable lounge. The Amber Lounge Bar is beneath the Chesterhouse Hotel and the promenade. The main bar has a comfortable lounge and bar open for drinks most nights of the week. Please Note: Due to the original features of the Chesterhouse Hotel it is not suitable for guests requiring wheelchair or street level access as there are external steps to access the hotel entrance. During your stay we have included these great excursions: Day 2 – Laxey & Snaefell Mountain Railway: To the north lies the historic village of Laxey, home to the words’ largest waterwheel called “Isabella”. Board the Mountain railway at the “Cottage” up to Snaefell Peak, with time to take in the sweeping views of the island. Onto Ramsey with free time returning along part of the famous TT course passing landmarks of Kates Cottage, Keppel Gate and Windy Corner. Steam train, Cregneash & Peel Hop on the Isle of Man steam railway with its original locos and carriages for a 16 mile journey to Port Erin where the coach will take you to Cregneash, the first open air Folk museum in the British Isles. Afterwards, a scenic coastal drive visiting Port St Mary & Port Erin before continuing up the west coast to Peel, famous for its kippers, castle and sandy beach. Return to Douglas along the TT circuit over Tynwald Hill passing the 1000 year old Manx Parliament - the oldest in the world. As well there is a day at leisure in Douglas On day 5 we make our way home via the ferry crossing from Douglas to Heysham.
