We start with a local departure for our journey north to Aberfoyle. Here accommodation has been reserved for 4 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis at the popular Rob Roy Hotel which has a rural setting on the outskirts of town. All rooms have private facilities, TV and tea / coffee making facilities. Features include a bar, restaurant and regular evening entertainment. On 04 November departure we have included these great excursions: • A day tour to Stirling, passing Scotland’s one and only lake – Lake Monteith and its island Inchmahone Priory where Mary Queen of Scots once hid. The city of Stirling has many places to visit including Stirling Castle built in the 11th century with its own Visitor Centre, (admission extra) • A day tour to mighty Loch Lomond. We have included a boat trip on the Loch. We also visit the Glengoyne Distillery at Killearn for a tour and a ‘wee dram’. (Opening hours permitting) • Day tour over the Trossachs past Loch Achray and into Callander - a picturesque town situated on the River Teith, near Stirling. Set dramatically beneath high, wooded crags, this colourful town is crammed with tea shops and souvenir shops. Just 12 miles north of Callander is the village of Balquidder where we can find Rob Roy’s grave. On all other departures we have included these great excursions: • A visit to Edinburgh – the power capital of Scotland. Towering over the city is the dramatic silhouette of the Castle, with the lofty buildings of the Mediaeval ‘old town’ stretching down below it along the Royal Mile. To the north the new town’s elegant streets and crescents are lined with Georgian houses and classical buildings • A visit to Loch Lomond. We climb past Glen Coe, pass the Cobbler Mountain, descend to Loch Fyne and reach the white walled town of Inverary, with its castle, ancestral home to the Dukes of Argyll On 08 April, 03 June & 14 October we have included this great excursion: • A trip on the Falkirk Wheel. This is the world’s only rotating boat lift linking the Forth and Clyde and Union Canals. We take a journey on the Wheel to the union Canal, 115 feet above. It takes approximately 15 minutes allowing plenty of time to enjoy the stunning views. Once lifted the boat sails smoothly from the Wheel straight onto the Union Canal. This passes along the aquaduct, through Roughcastle Tunnel and then returns down, over the Visitor Centre. (Availability subject to opening times and days.
