The West Highland line featuring the Glenfinnan Viaduct made famous by the Harry Potter movies. A Short but sweet steam train journey from Aviemore on a locomotive, one of the Cairngorms little gems. Finally take the thrilling journey on the Kyle line between Skye and Dingwall to appreciate the dramatic scenery. A true showcase of Scotland’s best rail journeys. Day 1 - We start with a local departure for our journey north through the Borders to arrive at the Nethybridge Hotel set in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park. All rooms have private facilities and features include a bar and restaurant. During your stay the following excursions are included: Full day Highland Folk Museum & Strathspey Railways: Visit to the Highland Folk Museum followed by free time in Aviemore before enjoying a journey on the Strathspey railway. Based in the heart of the Highlands the premier heritage railway welcomes you aboard vintage carriages hauled by lovingly restored locomotive whilst admiring the rugged scenery. Full day – The Kyle Line and Skye: After breakfast we head for Inverness to catch the train for ‘one of the most beautiful rail journeys in Europe’ – Michael Palin. In Kyle our coach collects you for the short journey to the Isle of Skye, with time for sightseeing. Return to our hotel by coach through glorious Highland grandeur Full day – West Highland Line - Jacobite Steam Train journey – ‘Hogwarts Express’ as seen in the Harry Potter films - One of the holiday highlights – the day includes: • A 2 hour journey by train either from Fort William to Mallaig or Mallaig to Fort William. This has been made world famous in the ‘Harry Potter’ movies, absorbing beautiful views of lochs, mountains, Glenfinnan Viaduct, Loch Morar and the small Isles of Eigg, Much and Rum. • A road journey either from Fort William to Mallaig or Mallaig to Fort William. During this we stop off in Glenfinnan to see Bonnie Prince Charlie’s Monument and the famous 21 arched viaduct on the Western Line. Finally we make our way to Banavie and the historic Neptunes Staircase – a series of locks on the Caledonian Canal. It is the longest staircase lock in the UK. Day 5 – We commence our journey home arriving back later on.
