We stay at the Cumbria Grand Hotel, Grange Over Sands. This Victorian hotel is set within 25 acres of gardens and woodland with the beach also within walking distance. All rooms have private bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. Features include a restaurant, bar, tennis courts, snooker table and ballroom (some facilities may be chargeable) On day 1 we will call at the market town of Kendal. This is home to a fine selection of shopping arcades, 2 castles and a host of historic buildings and bridges. From here we continue to the Cumbria Grand Hotel. On day 2 we visit the Northern Lakes. There is spectacular scenery from rugged mountains to lakes and villages along the valley floors. We travel past the tranquil waters of Ullswater to Patterdale and over the magnificent Kirkstone Pass to Windermere. From here we make our way to Ambleside where you will have some free time – perhaps an opportunity to visit Dove Cottage – the former home of Wordsworth. (Admission not included and opening hours permitting). From here we continue to Grasmere, then along the banks of Thirlmere and on to Keswick, nestled on the shores of Derwent Water. On day 3 we check out of our hotel and make our way to Bowness on Windermere. Here there will be some free time to spend as you choose. Time permitting you may take advantage of the range of optional cruises which are usually available along the lake or visit the nearby Beatrix Potter Exhibition, (admission fee not included).
