Poverty 2 Prosperity - Challenge Pack

Background Information P2P P2P is a development awareness project working in three EU countries plus Ghana. It seeks to address three challenges. Firstly, current development awareness for young people is not significantly changing behaviours and attitudes to the extent necessary to mobilise support for the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s). Secondly, much development education is based on the needs of young people in developing countries and fails to recognise the needs of young people in Europe. Thirdly, the quality of development education amongst new member states is very weak, with little formal support for schools and teachers in the way of training, resources and programmes. P2P will work with young people to increase their understanding of the interconnections between EU and developing countries, how their actions can support developing countries, and have the confidence to voice their opinions to decision-makers. The quality of development education in each EU partner country will be improved through developing new resources and providing capacity building to teachers. P2P is a partnership between five organisations. Each is a leading organisation in their country promoting understanding and action about the environment and sustainable development. We are: · Field Studies Council – FSC (UK) · Cumbria Development Education Centre – CDEC (UK) · Bokor Oko Csoport Alapitvany – BOCS Foundation (Hungary) · This Is My Environment – TIME Foundation (Bulgaria) · International Centre for Enterprise and Sustainable Development (Ghana) The Challenge Packs are the result of collaboration between all the partners. They have been developed over a period of 12 months and trialled with teachers and young people from each partner country. The conceptual framework, Challenge Pack lessons and text were created and written by Andrew Turney (Head of Centre, FSC Brockhole) and Beki Cosh (Global Education Officer CDEC) . Additional information and research has come from Tracey Chaplin , Amie Fletcher and Ben O’Donovan (FSC Brockhole) , Richard Dawson (Project Manager, FSC) , Kamen Chipev and Nadya Boneva (TIME) , Betty Zsoldos , Imola Tomaj , Zsofi Szoke (BOCS) , and Emmanuel Boon (ICED) . The artwork was produced by Mihail Delchev and the supporting P2P website was developed by Zigi Web Ltd and designed by Ivaylo Pavlov, Mihail Delchev and Kamen Chipev. P2P is delivered with financial assistance of the European Union. The project is the sole responsibility of the P2P partners and can under no circumstances be regarded as reflecting the position of the European Union.
