Poverty 2 Prosperity - Challenge Pack

Lesson Objective To recognise that there are connections between ourselves, EU countries, and developing countries. To raise awareness of the implications of climate change for all citizens wherever they live. The Climate And Me Launch Yes/no game using ‘back to board’ approach. Use a selection of recognisable images e.g. glass of water. In pairs use questions that have only yes/no answers, to establish the identity of the object. Group Work Using a collection of images of families from around the world, pupils ask the five ‘w’ questions , such as: Who are these people? What are they feeling/thinking/doing? Where do they get their food? Why do they have that type of house? When do they see their relations? Also, assess the implications of the key elements of climate change on the families, such as: • Changes in rainfall patterns • Rising temperatures • Increased flooding Using the recording sheet come up with a prediction about what will happen to the family in the immediate and long term. Pairs join up with other groups to share their findings. In groups, pupils can then use the ‘so what?’ question to consider what it has to do with us e.g. so what happens if crops don’t grow? So what has this got to do with me?
