Lesson Objective To make connections between people, places, lifestyles and link these to the issue of climate change. Ignorance Is Bliss Moving Forward The Climate AndMe Changing Worlds Launch Choose Mystery 1 or Mystery 2 Mystery 1: Show image of a flooded business and/or home to small groups. Pupils have one minute with each picture. On one post-it note choose two words to describe the image; on a second post-it note, describe how you would feel if you were the owner. Introduce mystery question: Why might a pizza business close down? - get initial predictions. Refer to key questions they may like to answer Who? What? Where? Why? When? and So What are the implications? Mystery 2: Show images of schools in Africa to small groups. Pupils have one minute with each picture. On one post-it note choose two words to describe the image; on a second, describe how you would feel if you went to school there. Introduce mystery question: Why can’t some children go to school? - get any initial predictions. Refer to key questions they may like to answer, including the ‘five w’s’ and the ‘so what’ questions. In groups of three or four give out envelopes. Pupils can then read all the statements and begin to group them as they wish. There is no correct answer or order for the statements but the important element is the justification that pupils give. Pupils try to work out the answer to the initial question by asking further questions (i.e. Who? What? Why?
